Cargo traffic of the Northern Sea Route may increase over 8 times to 30 million tons at least by 2020

The cargo traffic of the Northern Sea Route may increase over 8 times to 30 million tons per year by 2020, the Russian Ministry of Transport considers.

“The cargo traffic from the Yamal port of Sobetta (development of gas fields) will give about 15 million tons, and around 15 million tons will be transit cargo,” – the Deputy Minister, Viktor Olersky, who accompanied the General Secretary of the International Marine Organization, Koji Sekimitsu in his inspection trip on the eastern part of the Northern Sea Route, explained.
