The EU demands to bring South Stream into compliance with laws of the Union

The European Union doesn’t oppose the South Stream gas pipeline, its construction is stopped temporarily, European Commissioner for Energy, Gunther Oettinger stated.

"We have nothing against South Stream, all elements of infrastructure for the supply of gas to Europe are acceptable for us," - he said at a meeting with journalists at the International Press Association in Brussels on Wednesday evening.

South Stream is just a new structure for the existing gas streams. This is a supplement, not a new source. We are objective and neutral on the project. All decisions are made by investors and governments of countries, through which the pipe will be constructed,"- he said.
