Norilsk Nickel to sell another nickel mine in Australia

The World's leading producer of nickel and platinum, Norilsk Nickel has agreed with an unnamed company about sale of its nickel mine in Australia, which has stood idle for over 10 years, the first deputy general director of Norilsk Nickel, Pavel Fedorov reported to journalists.

“We signed an agreement with Australian company on sale of the small enterprise Avalon on production of nickel ore, which was stopped in 2003. We will officially announce the deal within the next few days,” – the ITAR-TASS cites Fedorov.

The Australian mine Avalon was acknowledged unprofitable in 2003 and closed down. The remaining resources of the mine can be mined by open pit method and make up 756.8 thousand tons of ore, which average content in ore is 0.86%.
