Donetsksteel stops open-hearth process

The ceremonial closing of the open-hearth process took place at the plant Donetsksteel (Donetsk, the Ukraine). Within the framework of city’s economic and social life programme implementation and realizing a complex programme of strategic development of the metallurgical complex, fulfilling the decision of the city council, concerning then improvement of ecological situation in Donetsk, the enterprise takes out the blast furnaces out of operation.

In 2008, they stopped the first of 6 blast furnaces at Donetsksteel. The next one took place in 2009. Now open-hearth process is  history. Instead of open-hearth furnaces there will be constructed an arc-furnace (DSP-150) with a modern gas treatment system. It has no analogues in the Ukraine.
