Sibur is not going to build sea terminal in the Far East

The petrochemical holding company Sibur is interested in the appearance of a sea terminal for transshipment of liquefied petroleum gas in the Far East in order to export it to Asian markets, including China, but the company itself doesn’t consider participation in its construction. This was reported by head of Sibur Dmitry Konov on the margins of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"The market of LPG consumption in Russia is premium for us, and we are particularly interested in its development through deep processing in polymers and other petrochemical products in the country," - he said.

However, according to Konov, the current significant surplus of LPG on the domestic market will continue in the medium term, so producers think about the diversification of gas export markets.

Speaking about the export of LPG to China, Konov notes that the main problem in logistics. "It can be solved by investing in the development of railways and sea transshipment," - he said, stressed that Sibur didn’t want to be an investor and owner of the terminal.

"We can give an investor a long-term contract on transshipment of LPG to the Asian markets, and it will build the terminal," - said the Sibur’s general director.
