Gazprom prefers LNG supplies to Japan, not pipeline construction

Gazprom still regards it a priority to supply gas to Japan as LNG, not via pipeline, the Deputy Chairman A. Medvedev says. They will analyze the pipeline variant, only after admission of the verdict for provision with LNG; they are the third stage of Sakhalin 2 and the plant in Vladivostok. The volume of exports from these objects can be 10-25 million tons, including 5 million tons from the third stage of Sakhalin 2. Investment study for the plant in Vladivostok, and the preliminary study for the third stage can be ready before the end of the year. The Deputy Chairman, V. Markelov says that construction of a pipeline to Japan is a very expensive project, including due to high seismic activity of the region.
