EC: Russia must coordinate Turkish Stream with the EU

After closure of the Russian gas pipeline project South Stream as a result of the ban of the European Commission, Brussels requires the Moscow to agree the new gas pipeline project Turkish Stream with the EC.

Any decisions on transit of Russian gas via Turkey must be taken in accordance with the European Union and must not violate the existing obligations in the gas sector. On March 17, vice-president of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Energy Maroš Šefčovič stated during his visit to Turkey. "When you plan large deliveries to European customers, you can’t make decisions without consultation with them, without consultation with the EU and the European Commission," - said Šefčovič. He noted that Brussels hadn’t received any details of the Russian proposal, and stressed that any new plans should be not only economically viable, but also compatible with the obligations of Gazprom to its long-term European customers.
