UC RUSAL will transfer about 2.1 million tons of production capacity in Russia to the "Environmental Soderbergh" technology

UC RUSAL announces the interim results of the introduction of the "Environmental Soderbergh" technology. The modernization is implemented at the largest enterprises of the company - the Krasnoyarsk and Bratsk aluminum smelters. By 2020 RUSAL plans to transfer 2.1 million tons of aluminum production into this technology (from 2.3 million tons).

The first "Ecological Soderbergh" pre-electrolysis technology was launched in 2009 at the Krasnoyarsk aluminum smelter. Since 2010 KrAZ transferred 286 electrolyzers into the new technology, including 89 pots in buildings № 3-6 in 2013. In 2013 the aluminum issue volume on smelter with the "Ecological Soderbergh" technology amounted to 160 thousand tons, or 16 % of the total production of the plant. According to the preliminary estimates, in 2013 the volume of emissions at the smelter decreased by 3% compared with 2012. In 2014, the buildings will begin upgrading the KrAZ electrolyzers number 1, 2, 9, 11-23 and continue modernization in the pilot building number 8 of the Bratsk aluminum smelter.
