In early 2016 the Ukraine unilaterally increased the gas transit fee for Gazprom by more than 1.5 times to $4.5/thousand cubic m. The decision was made by the National Committee of the Ukraine for state regulation in the energy and communal services spheres despite of the long-term contract for gas pumping between Gazprom and Naftogas.

The agreement for gas transit was signed in 2009 and is valid until the end of 2019. According to it, the disputes are settled at the Arbitration Court of the Trade Chamber of Stockholm.
