Gazprom expects to double the growth of reserves at the Arctic shelf

​The head of the department for gas, gas condensate and oil extraction of Gazprom, V. Cherepanov, assessed a possibility of discovery of new hydrocarbons deposits at the Arctic shelf as high.

On the results of geological exploration at the sites at the Arctic shelf, Gazprom expects more than a double growth of reserves in the coming decade, Cherepanov said.

At the deposits in the Sea of Okhotsk, the expansion of the resource base is expected at the level more than 1.5 times exceeding the current balance reserves.

2015-2024 is the main stage of geological exploration works at the shelf. Within this period the construction of more than 50 exploratory and appraisal wells will be needed, and in case of discovery of new deposits at the license sites, more than 30 wells will be required. An opportunity of discovery of new deposits in the region Cherepanov assessed as high.

In 2020-2023 the construction of 40 wells in the Barents and Kara Seas will be required, he added.
