Gazprom introduces prepayment scheme for Ukraine

The Ukraine was to pay out the debt at $1.95 billion before 10 a.m. on June 16th, 2014. But the payment did not arrive.

So, Gazprom has imposed prepayment mode for the supply of gas for Naftogas Ukrainy. It is said in a statement of the Russian holding.

“The decision has been taken because of the long-standing nonpayment by “Naftogaz Ukrainy”. The past-due indebtedness of the company makes up $4.458 billion, of which $1.451 billion is for November-December 2013, $3.007 billion – for April-May 2014,” is said in a statement.

Gazprom did not receive money for the gas, supplied to Ukraine in June. Starting today the Ukrainian company gets Russian gas if it prepays for it.
