Southern gas corridor is the main priority for Azerbaijan for the next 5 years
‘The Realization of Shakh Deniz-2 and the Southern gas corridor are the main priorities for Azerbaijan for the next 5 years’, - the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, N. Aliyev says in the interview to The Business Year. The year 2013 was successful for the development of the energy sphere of Azerbaijan. The state signed several important agreements including a FID for Shakhdeniz-2 under which Europe will annually get 10 billion cubic m of gas from Azerbaijan. The latter and several Balkan states signed the memorandum for mutual understanding on the future gas supplies.
Shakhdeniz-2 costing $28 billion is especially important for Azerbaijan. If taking into account other factors, in particular, the investment to the Sangachal terminal and Southern gas corridor broadening costing $6.5 billion and the expenses to Trans-Anatolian pipeline construction, then total investment will reach $50 billion. In the future, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan can use the infrastructure of Azerbaijan for fuel exports to the global market.
