Rosneft’s ally maybe displaced from the Sakhalin.

The American ExxonMobil, which together with "Rosneft" is involved in the "Sakhalin-1" project, can leave it in the event of the U.S. sanctions against Russia because of the events in Ukraine, the sources admit. With the American company leaving the joint projects, "Rosneft" can lose their only ally overseas. While the current sanctions hit only the head of "Rosneft" Igor Sechin, and the question of ExxonMobil exiting "Sakhalin - 1" has not yet been discussed. But "Rosneft" has suffered image losses: according to the publication, the foreign partners would like to sign bilateral agreements but not with him, but with other representatives of the company, "the Kommersant" states.

The Administration of the Sakhalin Region may enter in the "Sakhalin-1" offshore oil and gas project by buying a share of the project operator ExxonMobil (30%), a source in the administration reported to ITAR-TASS. According to him, "the U.S. company is considering leaving the "Sakhalin - 1" project in the case of the sanctions expansion against Russia". The consortium also includes "Rosneft" (20 %), Indian ONGC (20%) and Japan's Sodeco (30%). ExxonMobil reported that the company complies with the sanctions regime, but the current situation has no impact on the company and its plans remain the same. The administration of the region does not comment upon the situation.
