The Russian Federation proposed to build a pipeline to Japan.

Russia has offered Japan to build a pipeline that would connect the fields in the Russian Far East to northern Japan, Reuters reports, citing the Nikkei newspaper.

The gas pipeline, the construction of which has been discussed for decades, may encounter a number of obstacles including those related to the disputes over the islands seized by the Soviet army at the end of the Second World War. Because of them Moscow and Tokyo have not yet signed a formal peace treaty.
