The EU stocks gas "to the hilt" in case of deterioration in relations with Russia.

The EU countries stocked a record amount of gas, fearing that Russia may terminate the continent's vital gas supplies, The Independent writes.

"For the first time in the history the European gas storages are almost completely filled - they contain almost 80 billion cubic meters of gas, it is almost a fifth of the annual consumption of the European Union" - the newspaper states.

According to the journalists of the Independent, 28 EU member states are developing a plan in case of an emergency, which, inter alia, provides for a ban for the companies to sell liquefied natural gas via tankers beyond Europe and the cessation in the use of gas for the industrial purposes.
