Ukraine to get gas for advance payment

The gas conflict between Russia and Ukraine deepens. Gazprom has refused to supply gas without an advance payment because of a multi-billion dollar debt. Ukraine, in its turn, wants a Russian gas price reduction.

This week Gazprom has refused to deliver gas to Ukraine without advance payment. According to Russia, “Naftogas Ukrainy” owes more than $3.5 billion for gas and it does not pay for it now under the agreement. “There must be no doubt that the reason is considerable and objective,” an official spokesman for Gazprom S.Kupriyanov said. The monopoly has already prepared a bill, amounting to $1.66 billion, for June. It is based on a daily consumption of gas at 114 million cubic meters.
