“We don’t want a situation in which Russia to moves away from Europe”. Ambassador of France to Russia talks about prospects to settle Ukrainian crisis and the lifting of sanctions

Terrorist attacks in Paris and attempts to intensify negotiations on the Ukraine in Normandy format have set France in the center of world politics in these days. About how the French are fighting terrorism and trying to play a mediating role in the Ukrainian crisis settlement talks the France's Ambassador to Russia Jean-Maurice Ripert in an interview with the Kommersant.

- Terrorist attacks in Paris, which shocked France and the whole world, have been compared with the September 11 attacks in the United States. However, in France, the attackers were not foreigners, but people who grew up within French society. How could this happen in the citadel of European democracy?

- Comparison with September 11 is relevant only in the sense that no state can consider itself away from terrorism. Unfortunately, Russia, also suffered from terrorists, knows about it Nationality of criminals is not a big deal, this is a war of international terrorism with democracies, with countries that want to live freely.

The goal of the terrorists is to pump fear, intimidate, undermine the foundations of democratic societies. But talking about terrorists, who grew up in France, you are putting a serious question. Jihadist ideology actually penetrated into our society. There are young people in France and in other countries who feel rejected, lost. They are sensitive to the calls of extremists, propagandists, preachers calling for some kind of "holy war".
