Negotiations of the European Union and Russia on South Stream may urge the Ukraine on creation of consortium

Yesterday the European Commission stated that at request of the EU members it started negotiations with Russia on a review of their agreements on the construction of the South Stream pipeline. The EC insists on the conformation of the agreements with requirements of the Third Energy Package. But this will make the project unprofitable for Gazprom. The Ukraine may use the pause to agree on the creation of a gas transportation consortium and an increase or the maintenance of gas transit through its territory, experts note, as the Ukrainian Kommersant writes.
