Lukoil, Panatlantic and Romgaz have discovered a gas deposit in Romania

​The area of the deposit might reach 39 sq km, reserves – over 30 bln cubic m of gas which needs to be confirmed in the process of appraisal drilling, Lukoil reports.

 Lukoil along with its partners Panatlantic and Romgaz has completed the works on the construction of an exploratory well Lira-1X and discovered a gas deposit at the Lira sea structure located at the Trident block at the continental shelf of Romania.

Geological exploration works at the EX-30Trident block have been held by LUKOIL Overseas Atash B.V. since 2011 as operator on the basis of the concession agreement signed with the Government of Romania. Currently the stake of Lukoil in the concession agreement is 72%, Panatlantic Petroleum Ltd – 18%, Societatea Nationale de Gaze Naturale Romgaz S.A. — 10%.

Sea depth in the area of the block is 300-1,200 m. the area of the block is 1,006 sq km. The Lira-1X well is located about 170 km off the coast, sea depth is 700 m. The well was drilled to the depth of 2,700 m from a semi-submersible drilling unit TransOcean Development Driller II. The well was frozen, later the potential of the discovery will be tested there.
