SUEK to Increase Coal Supplies to Japan by 1 mln tons

 

SUEK plans to increase coal supplies to Japan by 1 million tons in comparison with the last year, reaching 3 million tons, reported the A.Belova, the officer of board of the conference “The Otrasl. Fuel Energy Sector” in St. Petersburg. According to her, Japan has expressed several requests to increase the supplies. Unfortunately, there are serious problems with Japan since they receive additional coal supplies from Russia, Indonesia, Australia, because earthquake and tsunami had a great impact on all its infrastructure system, including the ports and the roads, said A. Belova. She considered thought the strategic perspective to increase the coal supplies from Russia to be favorable, because its share on the market of Japan is now less than 4%. As it has been mentioned , in March 2011 Vice President I.Sechin reported to V.Putin about the plans to possibly increase energy supplies to Japan in the context of the happened earthquake and nuclear station (Fukushima Daiichi) accident. Mr. Sechin said that the Russian companies were ready to consider the possibility of increasing the supplies. According to him, it was possible to increase the coal supplies by 3-4 million tons.
