Gazprom can’t compensate disruption of blue fuel supply to the Ukraine

~~The Ukraine doesn’t intend to buy Russian gas from Gazprom till the end of this year, Ukrtransgas stated yesterday. The company Naftogas has owed Gazprom over $2 billion and can’t pay the debt immediately, as the Russian gas concern demands. The country’s Government decided to suspend the purchase of gas from Russia not to increase the amount of the debt and to reorient to European countries, particularly, Poland and Hungary. Experts think that the Ukraine will be able to live without Russian gas till the spring, and it will be difficult for Gazprom to compensate for its losses.

As the Institute of Energy and Finance’s President, Vladimir Feigin told, in recent years the Ukraine bought about 25 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia. “Today there are about 19 billion cubic meters in their storages. They will hold out till the spring. And it remains to be seen – maybe, they will be able to attract loans to pay Gazprom,” – he explains.
