New equipment is launched at Khakassia aluminium plant

The modern casting equipment - magnetohydrodynamic mixers, which speeds up the process of the manufacture of casting alloys, has been launched at Khakassia aluminium plant (HAZ, a part of UC Rusal). UC Rusal’s investment in the project, which aim is to increase the share of products with high added value, improve its quality and expand the product range of the plant, exceeded $1 million.

HAS began to produce casting alloy this year, and with the launch of the new equipment it is planned to produce 82 thousand tons per year.

"Casting multicomponent alloys include such churly chemical elements as manganese and titanium. To obtain a homogeneous composition of the smelt, the entire volume of the metal must be mixed well in a blender, - the plant’s CEO Anton Savchenko says. - Previously, we used diesel trucks and mounted tools. Now magnetohydrodynamic mixers mix metal contactlessly and effectively in 60-ton mixers due to the influence of the magnetic field; this guarantees perfect homogeneity of the alloy in term of chemical composition and temperature. We have finished product of high quality, save energy and reduce slag-making by 20%".
