Moncrief Oil has raised its claims against Gazprom over “South-Russian” gas deposit

Moncrief Oil has raised its claims against Gazprom.

Moncrief Oil International (USA) that has been trying to defend its rights to a stake in one of the largest Russia gas deposits the “South-Russian” in the US Courts for 9 years has increased its monetary requirements from Gazprom from $110 mln to $1.3 bln. The monopoly thinks the case should be transferred from the Tarrant County Court, Texas to the federal Court of the South County of Texas that already rejected the claims of Moncrief Oil International in 2006.

The lawyers of Baker Botts who represent the interests of Gazprom on August 6th filed a claim to the Court of the South County of Texas. The document says that Moncrief Oil International increased the amount of its claim against Gazprom from $110 mln to $1.3 bln. The basis of the claim, according to Gazprom, is that the litigation initiated by Moncrief Oil International in the Court of Tarrant County, Texas about the South-Russian gas deposit in the spring 2008 is an attempt to avoid the decision made in 2006 of the South County Court, Texas that ruled that the claims of Moncrief Oil International for a stake in the South-Russian deposit can’t be considered at the American Courts.
