Russia considers an opportunity of direct supplies of energy products to Greece

“Energy cooperation” by means of direct supplies

According to Reuters and Vedomosti, the Minister of Energy of Russia, A. Novak, has confirmed that Russia plans to support the “economic recovery” in Greece by means of cooperation in the energy sphere. In particular, an opportunity of direct supplies of energy products is being studied, the agreement might be reached in a few weeks. Russia might petrol, diesel fuel and other oil products to Greece.

Greece is a secondary market for Russian oil exporters

According to the Federal Customs Service, in 2014 the Russian companies shipped only 0.6 mln tons of oil products to Greece (diesel fuel and petrol). As a EU member, Greece might sell only Euro-5 fuel at its fuel stations while the majority of Russian companies produce this fuel primarily for domestic market. In theory Russia could ship crude oil to the oil refinery plants of Greece at lower prices, but this variant wasn’t officially mentioned.
