Northern Sea Route is to be all-year-round. New technologies and sustained effort is required for that to happen, council chair for the Arctic Region and Antarctic Region of the Federation Council V.Shtyrov said in the programme “Senate” of TV channel Russia 24.
There were transported 6.5 million tons of cargo in the Soviet times, it fell to 1.5 million tons in the 90's and made up 5.5 million tons in 2015, said the senator.
