Turkmenistan keeps increasing gas supply to China, leaving Russia behind

Turkmenistan, the largest gas supplier to China, will increased gas deliveries to the country after the launch of a new gas processing plant in the east on May 7th. So, China has consolidated the position as the main hydrocarbon purchaser of Turkmenistan and left Russia behind.

Gas supplies to Russia have decreased by ¾ over the last fewyears, Reuter reports. The president of the republic G.Berdymukhamedov has launched the plant at a cost of $600 million, built by Chinese specialists, within the framework of the oil-and-gas project “Bugtiyarlyk”, the agency writes. Turkmenistan delivered 21.3 billion cubic meters of gas to China in 2012. The launch of the plant will enable to increase this figure by another 8.7 billion cubic meters,
