New Year and new gas talks with Russia

Yuri Barsukov the business department columnist explains the rules of the game in gas talks

New Year is a good reason to start from a scratch. Apparently, this consideration occurred to the vice-president of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič, who deals with energy issues in the EU for more than two months, but decided to come to Russia just recently. Tomorrow he will meet with the RF Energy Minister Alexander Novak and the head of "Gazprom" Alexei Miller, continuing a marathon, which began about a year ago by his predecessor, Günther Oettinger. Now Mr. Shefchovich will deal with gas relations with Russia for the next five years, which promise to be very difficult.
