Metallurgical companies join Nord Stream-2

Russian pipe manufacturers prepare to fight against foreign competitors for the supply of pipes for the second stage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. Analysts have estimated that the total value of the order could be around $3 billion, of which the Russian players, despite the lower cost of the production, at best, will get half. The rest will go to foreigners, since the project needs the support of the European Union.

Today, the Swiss company Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the same name project of expansion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline from Russia to Europe under the Baltic Sea, will start accepting applications for the tender to supply pipes for the two lines with total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year, the Kommersant’s sources in the pipe industry report. According to them, the application will be taken immediately for the entire volume of pipes for delivery in 2016-2018 (the pipeline is planned to be launched in 2019). The results of the tender should be announced "before the end of the year," says the Kommersant’s interlocutors, one of them heard that it could be in November. Nord Stream 2 AG confirmed to the Kommersant that on October 12, the submission of the tender application for the supply of pipes for the Nord Stream-2 project would take place. The total weight of the pipes will make up about 2.2 million tons, the length - about 2.5 thousand km. The company doesn’t disclose participants, the budget and other conditions of the tender; Nord Stream 2 will report the term of the tender completion and its results later.
