Gazprom is going to launch Prirazlomnoye, the first shelf oil deposit in the end of October, a source close to the project reports. The story of Prirazlomnoye is alike those of Shtokman. The deposit was discovered in 1989, and production should have started in 1999. The potential partners changed, from the Australian BHP Petroleum,then to the German Wintershall,who not satisfied with profitability of the project at first, and with cooperation with Sevmash defensive shipyard then, ordered to build platforms for Prirazlomnoye. As a result, Gazprom continued the project independently.
