The USA ready to cooperate with Russia in creation of infrastructure for Tavan-Tolgoi coal deposit in Mongolia
The USA is ready to cooperate with Russia in the creation of the infrastructure for the Tavan-Tolgoi coal deposit in Mongolia, the President of Russian Railways, V. Yakunin stated after the negotiations that held with the management of the Association of the American Railways in New York. Currently Mongolia is holding the tender for the right to construct the infrastructure at the deposit but in fact the point is the right for the coal development at the deposit, he explains. ‘Today for the first time our American colleagues have admitted that they would be eager to cooperate with Russia in Mongolia and that creates some interesting prospects’.
At the negotiations the sides have summed up some results of their bilateral cooperation. In particular, they spoke about introduction at Russian railways a special device for tip cars forming the carrier and providing usage of cars, elaborated by the American specialists. This device allows to execute pressure of 125 tons to infrastructure but has its negative impact to ways is minimal compared to existing technologies. ‘The Americans have made this device specially for our infrastructure and due to that new cars can be introduced to production with a longer period of use without repairs. That’s a colossal saving of exploitation resources and serious economy of railway maintenance’. The sides have successfully realized the project for construction and putting into operation of a special plant for new railway bearings production in Samara. The enterprise operates already making goods that have not been produced in Russia before. While negotiations they reached agreement for the start of cooperation of the Russian specialists with the American center for railway transport testing obtaining the unique technologies in the sphere of safety’.
Tavan-Tolgoi is a coal deposit in Southern Mongolia. Its reserves are over 6 billion tons of coal and 40% of them are coking coal. This deposit's elaboration can double the Mongolia GDP by 2015. They need construction of a railway branch of 400 km and a power plant for its full-scale development. Under the preliminary data the application of the Russian Railways and its partners has passed through preliminary qualification within the bounds of the tender. Other members of the alliance are SUEK and several Korean and Japanese companies. One of competitive advantages of the application presented by the consortium is provision of full-fledged transport and logistic chain for supplying of Mongolian coal to target consumers in China and other states.
