Wintershall and Gazprom will work together in the North Sea

The Chairman of the Board of Managers of Wintershall, R. Srele says that in the near future they  will sign several contracts for assets exchange, under which Gazprom will get up to 50% in several oil and gas projects of the company at the North Sea.

According to the contract, the British company will get 25-50% in the fourth and fifth blocks of the Achimovsky layers of the Urengoy deposit. Earlier they have discussed exchange in the sites production at which is not performed at the moment, but will be increased to 8 billion cubic m annually in near years. Maybe, this gas will be resource base for Gazprom while its expansion to the British market, the most premium one in Europe.

Gazprom tried to stablise its position in the British market but faced interference from the authorities of the United Kingdom. Now Gazprom’s share at the British market is 11%, compared to 2% in 2006.

Gazprom has chosen an appropriate time for a new series of expansion to the British market, as oil production at the North Sea shelf by the state fell by 12.2%, and petrol production decreased by 10.1%, the Minister of Energy of Great Britain reports. As a result, oil imports increased by 62.1%, compared to Q2 2011.
