New giant oil and gas fields may be found near Kuril Trench

The largest world hydrocarbon deposits may be in the mainland side of the Tatar Strait and in the Tuscarora cavity behind the Kuril Trench, the Ministry of Energy reported on its page on Twitter on Wednesday. According the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, reserves of "blue fuel" and "black gold" in the cavity may be more than at all the other Sakhalin offshore projects.

The conclusions about the possible giant hydrocarbon fields in the Sakhalin region were made by Sakhalin scientists after examining the data of geological exploration, carried out by Dalmorneftegeofizika and the FEB RAS’ Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics.
