Kuzbass is included into development project of Baikal-Amur Mainline and Trans-Siberian railway

Russian Railways have decided to include the Kemerovo region in the modernization project of the Baikal-Amur Mainline and Trans-Siberian railway. It is assumed that the freight capacity will be increased by 20-39.3 million tons per year due to Kuzbass coal.

The decision was announced at a meeting of the Government Commission on Transport. The large coal companies insisted on the need to provide additional transportation of the fuel from Western Siberia. According to the protocol of the meeting, the target load per axle was set at 25 tons, and the standard weight rate of freight trains is 7.1 thousand tons. However, now the train weight doesn’t exceed 6.3 thousand tons.
