Uralkaly defends carnallite

Solikamsk magnesium plant (SMZ), one of the largest Russian consumers of carnallite, has failed to resume the anti-trust case against its manufacturer Uralkaly in court. SMZ tried to reduce the price from the supplier, then applied to the FAS, and when the controller didn’t find violations, went to court. The plant may still appeal, but lawyers are skeptical of success.

The Moscow Arbitration Court rejected the Solikamsk magnesium plant in a lawsuit to invalidate the decision of the FAS, which found no violations in the carnallite prices, set by Uralkaly. In late 2014, the plant complained to the FAS that Uralkaly set monopolistically high prices. The FAS filed a case, but closed it in autumn of 2015 after studying additional materials. SMZ disagreed with the decision and appealed to the court in January 2016.
