UC Rusal to invest about $2 bln into sintered alumina

Rusal has started the modernization of the Boksitogorsky clay plant. The goal of the modernization program is the increase of sintered alumina production which is used for the production of abrasive and refractory products. The investment into the project will make up about $2 bln.

The realization of the project will allow to expand the assortment by means of production of new fractions and increase the volume of produced  goods by 10 thousand tons to 73 thousand tons a year. The products of the enterprise will be shipped to the markets of Europe, Japan, USA, Russia and the CIS.

The modernization program is meant until 2017 and will be held in a few stages. Currently the project documentation is held and magnetic separators are purchased. The construction and assembly of  new complex of crashing and enriching equipment with the systems of material transportation.

Over 50% of the world volume of sintered alumina is produced in China. The project’s realization will allow the company to strengthen the export and increase its competitiveness in the world raw materials products for the production of abrasive tools and refractory materials, the head of the clay business of Rusal, Y. Itskov, said.
