EU has done its best to set a temporary quiet period in the gas issue between Russia and the Ukraine

The last 2 months the situation in the gas negotiations between Russia and the Ukraine was impossible to be settled. Russia used its last economic argument to influence the Ukraine in the framework of the existing gas agreement – the unbearable bill for $7 bln for unused gas according to the contract. Naftogas of the Ukraine also used its last argument – it reduces the gas purchase to the record low volumes of 18-20 bln cubic meters. Both parties might suffer significant losses. But there is no possibility or necessity to beat the other party, Nezavisimaya gazeta writes.
