EU Commission intends to hold a 3-party meeting on gas between Russia-Ukraine –EU in May-early June

​The EU Commission intends to hold a 3-party meeting on gas between Russia-Ukraine –EU in May-early June, the Vice-chairman of the EU Commission for Energy Union, M. Shefcovich, said.

Mr. Shefcovich said that the positions of the EU Commission, Russia and the Ukraine on gas negotiations have approached. The EU Commission submitted its suggestions to Russia and the Ukraine on how to hold further 3-party negotiations on gas.

The latest 3-party meeting on gas at the level of the Ministry was held on March 20. On April 16 the consultations of experts were held in Brussels, M. Shefcovich called them successful. On the basis of the experts’ opinion, we submitted our suggestions to both parties – the Ukraine and Russia. Now we expect their comments. We’ll see if another round of consultations at the level of experts will be necessary or we will try to hold a 3-party meeting at the political level (Ministry), M. Shefcovich said.

According to him, the 3-party negotiations will allow to strengthen the achievements which were reached by the parties in the winter and extend their validity until the decision of the Arbitration Court by the mutual claims or at least until the next winter.
