Greece asks the European Commission to speed up the approval of the transaction for the DESFA gas company.

Greece asks the European Commission to speed up the approval of the sale of Greek DESFA gas transmission system operator to Azerbaijan. Yesterday Yannis Maniatis, the Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change of Greece, addressed Maroš Šefčovič, the Vice-President of the European Commission, the EU Energy Commissioner, with such a request.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has acquired 66% stake in DESFA for 400 million Euros, having won a tender in June 2013. The European Commission has not yet approved the deal, RIA Novosti informs. Baku considers DESFA a key company for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project for the supply of gas from Shah Deniz through Turkey and Greece to the south of Europe.
