Serbia is between the devil and the deep sea because of South Stream

Bulgaria has frozen the construction of the South Stream pipelineproject, but Serbia still can’t decide on whose side it is on. Desiring to enter the EU, it is still afraid to join sanctions against Russia, as Serbia is completely dependent on supplies of Russian gas, the Wirtschaftsblatt writes.

The longer the South Stream project stands idle, the greater becomes the concern of the participating countries. Bulgaria has frozen the construction of the pipeline. Now Serbia will have to wait too, the Wirtschaftsblatt notes.

It seems that the only countries, for which the implementation of the South Stream project doesn’t require coordination with Brussels, are Russia and Austria, the edition writes. All other states, in which territory the pipeline should be constructed, worry about connecting to the gas network, which is becoming less and less likely as far as the war in the Ukraine continues, the author writes.
