More than 30 mln tons of LNG exported from Sakhalin over 3 years
The operator of the project “Sakhalin-2” – the company Sakhalin Energy – has produced more than 30 mln tons of LNG over the first 3 years of the operation of the LNG plant, it exceeds the volume of the annual gas supply to Germany.
The LNG production plant Sakhalin Energy in the South of Sakhalin was launched in February 2009. Its project capacity is 9.6 mln tons a year, which is equivalent to 5% of the LNG production in the world. RIA Novosti reports.
Over the last 3 years the company produced and exported more than 30 mln tons of LNG which is equivalent to 40 bln cubic meters of natural gas and exceeds the volume of the annual gas supply to Germany which is the largest consumer of the Russian natural gas.
On Thursday the 500th lot of LNG with the 145 thousand cubic meters volume was shipped from the Prigirodnoe port to South Korea. Its purchaser is one of the largest participants in the world market of this energy product – the Korean state gas corporation Kogas.
The country is the 2nd by the volumes of the Sakhalin LNG, and the main part of the production of Sakhalin Energy is exported to Japan. In 2011 the Japanese energy companies were shipped almost 70% of the LNG produced by the company – more than 7 mln tons. Moreover, in 2011 the supplies were held to Thailand and China.
The press service of Sakhalin Energy said that with the putting into operation of the Sakhalin plant Russia entered the new international gas markets which earlier used to be shipped only to Europe and the CIS. Last year 10.6 mln tons of LNG was produced and exported. The gas volumes exported by the LNG plant are equivalent to almost 10% of all the supplies of the Russian gas to Europe.
The geography of the Russian LNG exports comprises not only the APR countries. In 2010 India and Kuwait purchased LNG from Sakhalin.
