The Ukraine could face a shortage of drilling rigs for prospecting and the exploration of shale gas, the member of the supervisory board of the energy strategies’ institute, Yuri Korolchuk said.
“The USA has 2.5 thousand drilling rigs and Ukraine – about 200 rigs which need either modernization or replacement. If Kiev wants to develop the extraction of shale gas it has to decide whether to found own high-technology production of rigs or import the equipment. If the decision in made in favour of import, Ukraine can become dependent on suppliers of such equipment”, he reported.
