South Stream becomes a political crisis.

The political situation surrounding the project can bring down the Bulgarian government.

Yesterday the situation surroundining the South Stream pipeline led to conflict in the governments of Bulgaria and Serbia - the key countries in the project. Despite the surprising announcement of Plamen Oresharski, the Bulgarian Prime Minister, to suspend South Stream, other members of the government and his colleagues in the ruling coalition disagreed with him. And the prime minister of the country personally disavowed the statement to suspend South Stream in Serbia. Moscow discerned in Sofia’s decision the political pressure of Brussels, and, according to the experts, will try to solve the problems of South Stream in direct talks with the European Commission.
