Gold and silver to be mined in Altai

The production of precious metals from so-called "tails" – storages of already mined and processed ore – is planned to be resumed in the Altai region.

Altai GOK in the Altai mining town Gornyak mined minerals - copper, lead and zinc – from 1947 to 1998. Now, there is a half buried hole in the ground and ruins instead of the mine. 20 years ago a factory was at the place of the ruins, where 3.5 thousand mining workers extracted copper, lead and zinc from 12 deposits in four districts of the region.

"The whole our working team was transferred to the Korbolihinskoye deposit. They deliver us by bus from the town Rubtsovsk. The same bus delivers workers from Gornyak. And takes them back,"- says deputy chief of the underground mining area of Siberia-Polymetals Dmitry Sharapov.
