After 2020 Alrosa to start industrial extraction of diamonds at Pioneer Pipe in the Arkhangelsk region

​With the start of industrial diamonds extraction at the Pioneer Pipe, developed by Alrosa, the stake of the Arkhangelsk region in the diamonds extraction in Russia will reach 20%, the Governor of the region, I. Orlov said.

By the extraction rates we are at the stage of preparation of the project for the start of stripping the Pioneer Pipe of Alrosa. And then we will reach the planned 20% - in 2020-2021 taking into account the investment and start of industrial extraction, reaching the project capacity, I. Orlov said.

By the assessment of the specialists in the diamond extraction sector, 20% of diamonds in Russia will be extracted in the Arkhangelsk region. The region will be the largest diamond bearing province in Europe, the Governor said.

He also said that the new deposit will be developed by Alrosa. Besides Alrosa, Lukoil extracts diamonds in the region.

2 main players at this stage are traditionally Alrosa represented by Severalmaz and Arkhangelskgeoldobycha – by Lukoil. Both companies hold exploration aiming for growing an opportunity of extraction, I. Orlov said.
