Snam may redeem part of the shares of SOCAR in the Greek GTS DESFA and compensate through participation in the TAP gas pipeline.

The Italian Snam has officially confirmed its interest in buying a 17% stake in the operator of Greek gas transportation system DESFA.

The Fund for the State Property Management of Greece has already received a formal proposal from Snam to buy a 17% stake in DESFA and expects the same from a consortium of Greek and other companies from the EU.

Lets recall that SOCAR was actually forced to sell 17% stake in DESFA to one of the European companies, because Europeans decided that the monopoly of Azerbaijan in this issue was very similar to the attempts of Russia, and therefore needed to keep gas networks in Europe – just in case.
