The Ukraine and Europe may not receive Russian gas
Gas relations between Russia and the Ukraine are moving towards a crisis situation again. Today, Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting with members of the Government, during which, according to the Kommersant,a limitation of gas supplies to the Ukraine because of debts will be discussed. In turn, the Ukraine, which didn’t pay its debt for March, openly and directly threatens to stop gas transit to Europe because of Russia's actions. The European Commission starts discussing the consequences of the interruption of supplies. Thus, all parties are preparing for a repetition of the scenario-2009, when Europe didn’t receive Russian gas fro about about two weeks.
Today, Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting of leadership of the Government, during which “the extraordinary situation in the economic cooperation with the Ukraine, including in the field of energy dialogue” will be discussed, press secretary of the President, Dmitry Peskov stated. Peskov specified that issues of gas supplies to the Ukraine in view of the nonpayment for gas will be discussed at the meeting. Answering the question if a decision to limit the supplies was already made, Dmitry Peskov said: “If it was made, it wouldn’t be necessary to hold the meeting”.
