The Ukraine may spend up to $700 mln. on coal in 2014

The Ukraine, a former net coal exporter, might spend up to $700 million on the purchase of coal this year. The analytical center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Ukraine stated, Reuters writes.

“According to our assessment, if there is no supply of coal from Donbas to the domestic market, its will be necessary to import approximately 5-7 million tons of steam coal within the period from September to December 2014,” spokesmen for Derzhzovnishinform write.

Based upon current export prices of steam coal and the cost of freight, the analysts assess the expenses on the purchase of steam coal at $450-700 million.
