Russia: The concept of the super shipyard in the Far East changes

Development model of Zvezda shipyard, which is being built under shelf orders of oil and gas companies, can change. Construction of LNG carriers "will go on the back burner", and the shipyard will focus on drill-ships and supply vessels. According to the Kommersant’s information, there are no "solid" orders for LNG carriers for a while, and in the conditions of the EU and US sanctions, banned the export of offshore technologies in Russia, the production of machinery for extraction is more important for the oil industry. In addition, it’s easier to master this technology than LNG carriers. However, the change of the concept of Zvezda can lead to a shift in timing of the shipyard launch.

On Friday, president of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSC) Alexei Rakhmanov stated that the range of products of the Zvezda shipyard, which is being built in the Far East, to the amount of 110 billion rubles, may change. "We came to the conclusion that all the errors that could be made were made, - he said.- One of the fundamental errors is the absence of a carefully considered conceptual project of the shipyard development". Mr. Rakhmanov assured that "we can’t say that we have lost some money", all practices will be used.
