Oil and gas exploration at new perspective of Vostochny Supetau territory starts in North Tajikistan

Oil and gas exploration at new perspective of 2.5 thousand square km Vostochny Supetau territory situated in the North of Ashtsky region has started in North Tajikistan. The exploration is led by Tajik-Swiss Somon Oil and Tajik Sugd Geo JSC, more than 150 specialists are involved.

IA Regnum reports, test drilling will be led soon. Despite the fact, that hydrocarbons will be extracted there for the first time and nothing is known about raw materials reserves, investments into this strategical project are evaluated in $56 million .

Currently the republic obtains major part of energy resources from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Russia. Nevertheless,Tajikistan is searching for oil and gas actively. Besides Somon Oil, Russian Zarubezhneftegaz, which started drilling in central part of the republic and Canadian Thesis Petroleum Ltd., dealing with aerogeophysical research in South-West which will allow to plan seismic exploration (experts say, seismic exploration is the main method used to prepare structures for deep drilling) participate in oil and gas activities of Tajikistan.

Catalogminer-alov.ru reports, there are rather large heavy oil deposits in Tajikistan (Kichikbel, Akbashadyr, Kizilgumshuk etc.), however, many of them stay idle. The reason is high content of sulfur and lack of gasoline fractions, high coking ability and difficulties in creation of necessary processing schemes.

Totally, Tajik reserves amount to 113.1 million tons of oil, 863 billion cubic metres of gas and 36 million tons of gas equivalent. 80.8% of all oil and gas resources are concentrated in South-Western part of the republic, the rest 19.2% - in Northern part.
