The Ukraine might receive gas without a contract with Russia

The Ukraine has a chance to deprive Gazprom of its control over at least one route of gas pumping via the country to Europe.

Having signed an agreement with FGSZ (Hungry), Kiev demands Gazprom to submit the data on gas flow. It will allow to organize a virtual reverse, leave Russia as a supplier and found its own gas hub.

If Gazprom refuses, the Ukraine plans to pressurize it via the EU Commission in the framework of the antimonopoly case. The legal arguments of Kiev seem not to be that strong but it might become a start for a serious pressure on Moscow from Brussels.

The cooperation and information exchange agreement was signed between Ukrtransgas the operator of the Hungarian gas transport system FGSZ. This is the first agreement between the Ukraine and a EU country. It gives an opportunity to organize a virtual gas reverse via the Ukraine.
